How to Clean Backyard Playsets

With the arrival of children, your garden might have gained a little unexpected decor in the kind of a backyard playset. Even though it’s an easy task to overlook, failing to wash out the playset may lead to more dirt and dirt tracked through the house and make your child’s play gear a haven for germs. Playsets arrive in a plethora of shapes, sizes and materials, but a few universal cleaning tips keep them, your kids and the plants of your backyard safe.

Equip yourself with a pair of comfortable latex gloves and fill a bucket with warm water use a garden hose to store your cleaning project from the house. Mix in 1 or 2 tbsp of natural dish liquid, based on the concentration of the liquid and the size of your bucket. You need to have a frothy, soapy solution. Stick with natural, nontoxic and biodegradable dish liquid. All these phosphate- and also petroleum-free cleaners are generally made from plant-based essential oils and botanical extracts, however double-check using a garden facility to ensure they wo not harm the plants in your backyard.

Dip a soft-bristled brush into the water and dish liquid solution. Scrub the whole surface of the playset, applying firm pressure and with a circular movement. Target and remove germ-ridden hotspots such as handprints, mildew and bird droppings as your scrub. Rinse and re-dip your brush frequently to keep your cleaning solution nice and soapy. Empty the bucket and mix a new solution if the water becomes too cluttered.

Rinse the whole playset wash with water from your garden hose. Allow the equipment to air-dry completely before letting your kids play on it.

Repeat the process bi-weekly or monthly based on how much use the playset gets. At the very minimum, clean your child’s playset once every season.
