The Way to Install a Pole Pruner Blade

Pole pruners are easy to use and help you save energy — and unlike electricity tools, they have components that are affordable and simple to replace. Study your rod trimmer — they are each somewhat different — they typically include components that slide together and are secured by one or more bolts. The exception is that the rope that operates the lopper on rod trimmers, which traverses a number of pulleys.

Pruning Saw Blades

Disassemble the blade by removing the bolts that hold it on head or the rod shank of the trimmer. Treat the bolts with a spray cleaner-lubricant to loosen them if they’re old and corroded. Use an adjustable wrench or socket wrench that fits the bolts. Place the bolts aside.

Wrap the blade that is old and discard or recycle. Before reusing them clean the bolts with a rag and solvent.

Unwrap the new blade and slip it in the slot that held the blade that is old.

Reattach the bolt or bolts through the shank and tighten.

Lopper Blades

Lay the rod on its side. The return spring remove. Inspect this spring and then replace it with a new spring.

If it is connected to the blade unbolt the pulley base.

Remove bolts or the bolt, clean and place aside. Slide the blade back out of the head.

Push the new blade, sharp side forward and slip it through the head.

Bolt the new blade into position at the head.

Reattach the rope spring, and return.
